Upcycled Design & Decor for The Vintage Aesthetic
About Me

Thank you so much for coming by! Here's a little about me:
I married a Musician With A Day Job from Glasgow, Scotland in 1990 and I am the descendent of a Russian Gypsy wrestler, with a little French & German thrown in, so we have a pretty eclectic household! We have two sons, one daughter, and right now, four dogs and one tarantula! I've almost always been a WAHM. I love all things vintage, retro, DIY, decor, design, sewing, furniture refinishing, upcycling, & repurposing. Not to mention technology, music, and video games! I particularly adore old movies (especially silent and classic horror movies), will attend almost any kind of festival, and can blow hours rummaging through thrift stores. I read everything, I'm a news junkie, and I am a big animal welfare advocate! If you would like to know some more weird facts about me (because I *am* weird), click HERE.If you ever have a question or need to contact me, don't even hesitate! Just click HERE.And, BTW, I adore comments and I respond to each and everyone - by E-Mail! So, if you are a NO-REPLY commenter, check out THIS LINK to fix that, so I can chat with you!

Costume-Crazy!!
I caught this article, entitled "Costume Ideas for Parents Who Hate Their Kids", on Cracked.com (which almost always lives up to it's name for me) and, even though I’m a DIY-gal, I had to laugh, because I know how right they are. My kids would have rebelled at all of these and I would have died of embarrassment myself!
It got me to thinking, though, about all our costumes over the years, because I remember one particular meltdown by The Girl Child about ten years ago. This costume I had handmade for her oldest brother a few years before caused all hell to break loose:
Yeah, she’s smiling there. Don’t let that fool you. I probably bribed her with candy. Anyway, she had to go to preschool as a jack-o-lantern and I had a full-out rebellion on my hands. She wanted a store-bought princess costume! I wanted to utilize the costumes I had already made!
Liebster Blog Award!
Well, I gotta tell you, seriously, I’m all speechless and blushy and stuff! I was nominated for my first blog award!! Can we say OH-EM-GEE here?!
Taking One Lamp from Sucky to Steampunk!
Hi, there! Glad to see you!
If you remember from my Goodwill Hunting post last Monday, one of the little “treasures” I found was a cheap-looking cream plastic lamp. Honestly, when I suggested turning this into a lamp that would fit in with The Girl Child’s Steampunk-inspired bedroom, she looked at me with a fair amount of skepticism. The shade I found to go with it was OK, but the lamp itself was pretty yuck. But, but it had tassels, so into the cart it went!
Shona Skye Goes to the Dogs! (Facts & A Tutorial!)
If you know me or have noticed the plethora of pictures and links scattered around the side columns of my blog, you know I'm a big advocate for animal welfare and promoting adoption and rescue over shopping the pet stores that are frequently stocked by puppy mills. I want to share some facts today that are very near and dear to my heart, plus share a DIY tutorial for dog toys that my daughter's Girl Scout troop made to donate to Open Door Animal Sanctuary, our local no-kill animal shelter that the troop volunteers for during the Season of Giving. And these four are a few of the reasons why this issue is so near and dear to my heart:

What's that Vignette Trying to Hide?!
The Hubster was off this past Thursday and Friday and he decided to surprise me! You will have to either guess what he surprised me with or wait until the end of this post, but I will say this - his surprise, while totally awesome, presented me with a decorating challenge. The upside of getting hit with a new decorating challenge is, of course, having new blog post fodder, right? And, so, voila!
The "Goodwill Hunting" Monday Morning Report
Ermagerd!!! I'm SO glad you stopped by! I have GOT to tell you - I had one of the BEST thrifting weekends EVER! I probably spent more than I should have, but the stuff this weekend was just too good to pass up!
I purposely didn't put my most favorite find in the collection picture up there! I'm saving that one for last! :)
I Got The Itch To Add...
So, last week, I posted about my DIY Halloween Decor. I love it every year I put it up! Halloween is my favorite of the holidays, truth be told, because I'm just a lunatic for anything spooky.
Anyway, through my travels on the interwebs and the blogosphere, I have discovered several things I suddenly have decided I cannot do without. Incredibly, my decor is not enough on it's own! Who knew? LOL It's all right, though. The Hubster is used to it. I make these discoveries every year (regardless of the fact that I always claim to be "finished" with my outdoor decor).
First up, I found these awesome ideas on Better Homes and Gardens:

Sew Many Ways...: To All Google Plus Users...How to Change Your Email Setting
Hi there!! I wanted to share an article from my new friend, Karen, who writes an awesome blog over at Sew Many Ways.

I was commenting on one of her great posts (honestly, she puts up some of the best stuff!) and she was kind enough to let me know that I was in "no email response" land. I know A LOT of you are, too. I thought I *had* taken care of that with some settings adjustments, but I hadn't!
So, after Karen emailed me, we worked back and forth and I finally figured out how to fix the problem once and for all. I gave her all the steps and she wrote it up for her followers (and we even nice enough to credit me!)
If you are using Google+ and comment, please take a couple minutes to read through this, so we can email you back on your comments! We bloggers really do love to hear from our readers and we want to connect back with you!

Obsessed over Blogger Troubles
I was dang near incommunicado yesterday, but I still spent most of the day at the computer. Ugh.
So, yesterday morning, I wrote up a great little post about our near-disastrous weekend - did nothing different than I ever have before - hit Publish, and went to share it to my Facebook page and suddenly, none of my pictures in the post would show up for thumbnails. Instead, I got this:
No Goodwill Hunting, but Holy Harley, Batman!
Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you had a share of the awesome fall weather we had here! It was windows open and just a touch of fall in the air! Love it!
Normally, I would have spent a good part of my weekend hitting up all my local Goodwill and thrift stores, but not this weekend. So, now, of course, I'm sitting here thinking that the most awesome whatzit ever was there and someone else got it! LOL
And why wasn't I out snatching up all the awesome finds?
And why wasn't I out snatching up all the awesome finds?
The Harp Chair
Hey, there! I'm so glad you stopped by today! Got a chair makeover that I am really excited to share with you!
If you follow me over on my Facebook page, you may have a seen a nice little harp-backed chair I picked up on one of my local Goodwill runs a few weeks ago. The chair was in nice condition and I just love the vintage harp on the back, but there is no one in my house doing the pink and white thing anymore:
I nabbed this beauty for $12! Structurally perfect, it was the ideal chair to match up with the DESK I refinished for my daughter earlier this year. Finally!
Well, it will be...once the pink and white is a thing of the past!
The Haunting of MY Hill House
I'm going to level with you all - we are a rather twisted family. I can promise you, we have more in common with the Addams Family than The Cleavers. If we were left to our own devices (and wouldn't draw complete ostracization from our neighbors and end up having warrants put out on us by code enforcement officers), we would probably live in a "haunted house" all year 'round. Since I can't, and since I don't have unlimited funds to spend, let me show you what we do and how we do it cheap!

Master Bedroom Closet - MASTERED!
Last week, in one of my warts-and-all moments, I shared with you the disaster zone that was my closet. Before I could tackle all the fun stuff of making my bedroom over into the oasis/sanctuary of my dreams, I knew I had to tackle this mess:
So, after gathering some great goodies to make over my master bedroom, I forced myself to knuckle down and turn this mess into a workable clothes closet!
Tallying Up The Weekend Haul - Goodwill Hunting
Hey, there! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here, the weather is definitely cooler and it's moving into Fall. We had highs in the 70s and I'm LOVING it!!! October is my FAVORITE month with my FAVORITE holiday!
I didn't get to do my Goodwill runs this weekend, which is kind of bugging me. I have this little voice in the back of my head, whispering that the most awesome thingy ever was snapped up by someone else. LOL But it's OK. It's not like I came home empty handed!
