End of Watch

Synopsis:

Shot documentary-style, the film follows friends and partners in the LAPD, Brian Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Mike Zavada (Pena). Taylor is filming their police activities for a film class he is taking and, much to the dismay of their fellow officers, attaches small cameras to his and Mike's uniforms and carries around a camcorder. These men, as friends and partners, trust each other not only with their lives but, even more importantly, with each other's families' well being, too. Crime on their beat is on the rise due to a violent Mexican drug cartel. And these cops are so good, they start to bite off more than they may be able to chew.

What I Thought:

This movie shows how dedicated the individuals in law enforcement can be. The chemistry between the main actors is pretty good. Jake is Jake and Pena, as usual, is pretty funny. Now, like I stated above, the film is primarily brought to you in a home-movie / documentary style. Very "Cops"esque footage. If you do not like the jumpy camerawork like that, I've heard this movie can be a challenge. However, I had no problem with it. Besides the chemistry, I felt that most of the film was pretty plausible. Although the movie isn't bad, the ending is a touch predictable. I think its a strong renter and its been recently released, which is why I bring it up.

Kid Friendly? = Movie is rated R for some violence and some sexual and drug use references. Not necessarily a movie for a young child, but wouldn't be the end of the world for an under-17 teenager.
